Microsoft recently published a study of trends that define the next decade, with SEO being listed as a Hard Skill marketers will need to know to stay on top of trends.

According to Microsoft’s study, SEO is listed as the top of these 5 hard-skills:

  1. SEO
  2. Data Analysis
  3. Copywriting
  4. Behavioral Analysis
  5. Automation

Interestingly, a good SEO will utilize the four remaining hard-skills to effectively master SEO.

Experience in Data Analysis is critical to understanding your audience, their patterns and preferences and helpful for content marketing and link acquisition.

Copywriting is critical for not only writing effective headlines that convert, but also ensuring your copy is focused on the target language and keywords consumers are using to find your site.

Behavioral Analysis is integral in a content marketing strategy that supports SEO, as well as technical SEO fundamentals such as creating a search-engine-friendly and user-friendly navigation.

Automation is key to scaling the entire process. To survive SEO, and marketing, you need to identify which tasks can be automated so you can work on the human portion of your role.

If you’ve been on the fence about whether or not you should incorporate SEO into your career development, this is a shining neon light letting you know that now is the time.
